This was my first ever road club champs and first race on the new CUBE road bike with new SRAM red group set and super fast scwalbe tyres. It was a hot day so nutrition was going to be important! There was a lot of friendly rivalry around and I was keen to get going!

The pace was on from the start and a small group of 4 riders and I were made on the first climb. As we still had to ride to billo and back I stayed calm and just did my turns, there was nothing more that I needed to do.

At about mid point in, the stronger riders did a long turn on the first of the climbs, then as we hit the base of the 2nd climb I grabbed a handful and went flat out like a lizard drinkin! There was still about 40km to go so I knew it was going to be hard yakka.

I put myself through the ringer and made it up the climbs to the turn around point on the last lap I was getting closer and closer. Coming into the finish I still had a big lead and was very happy. After coming back from a very bad back injury where for some time I was having a hard time just standing!

Without a few certain people I wouldn’t be riding anymore, so a massive thanks to my coach Mark Fenner, My Doctor Dr Tim Devlin, my mum and family and of course Dean from TORQ and team mates for there support!
