I’ve always had a mountain bike but never thought about racing until one of my teachers put the idea to me on a mountain biking trip with my school. Soon after, one of my Dads friends arranged for me to go riding with a local group in Red Hill. They are all a really great bunch of keen riders, and now, with their support they have helped me to gain confidence in my riding, and learn new skills.
Over the Christmas holidays I got a bit of fitness behind me and decided it was time to do a race! Stupidly enough I decided to enter myself in the Otway Odyssey 50km race, obviously not knowing what I was in for.
On the day of the race there were 1000 riders 700 of them doing the full 100km course and the other 300 doing the 50km course. The atmosphere of it was awesome and watching all those people enjoying the sport that I love was just great! I ended up coming 5th overall and 2nd in the under 18 category. Since then I have entered just about every race that I can and just love the sport with a passion! Ever since the Otway Odyssey I have been doing a lot more training, and one day I’d really love to represent Australia.
This year I am going to put all my effort into training for short course cross country events and do as well as I can in the National Series at the end of the year.
Thanks to Dean and Gen for making all this happen and for the yummy products that keep me going through training and at races.
